pasco: NLS Bard on Alexa
I cannot remember if this came up before, but now you can access BARD and read books using Alexa. I have been doing it since November, and though it is a little quirky, it does work. The nice thing is that if you have echo devices in several rooms, you can use the BARD reading function anywhere, and it will always remember where you left off.

So, what are step by step directions to getting Alexa to read NLS Bard on the Echo?

First off you have to get registered for the program. I was originally enlisted as a beta tester, so I am not sure how to get registered now. I'd suggest contacting your local network library, or checking with the NLS web sight.
Once registered, you give the following commands:
Alexa Launch My Talking Books. (if it recognizes you it will respond with a cute little tune and a message welcoming you to the my talking books program. It will prompt you with a couple of possible commands.
Read A Book. (would be your first command. It will begin listing possible books. This takes a bit of practice to find and select a book)
Resume Reading. (this command is the most useful as it continues reading your current book at the point at which you left off)
Pause (stops the reading briefly to allow another command such as to navigate to a different place backward or forward, or to leave the program altogether)
Exit (leaves the program.)
All commands must lead with the wake word.

Below is how you can get the skill up and running on your echo devices.
You will have to sign up for that feature and they will have to aprove your request to join as they only have 5000 slots available to people who is willing and interesting in trying it. Once you log in to your Bard account, you will be able to find the sign up for the my talking books skill. You need to enter your required information and submit the form and wait for them to aprove you. Your info should be correct as you have on your Bard account. They will ask for your name, phone number, and your email address you use for your Bard account.
