Mike Calvo (Pneuma Solutions Staff): Re: can't access Applevis podcasts through Sero app on my iPhone
Hi Techeydan: :
I’m not going to go through your post to correct every historical detail, but I do want to address a few things and set the record straight. Pneuma Solutions is doing fine and is definitely not on the brink of shutting down.
As for Sero, we’ve been around for a long time, and many users like Beth have been part of this community for over two decades. Back in 2017, when my business partner got sick, we decided that I’d keep Serotek alive to support Sero, SA, and DSP in maintenance mode. These technologies were groundbreaking for their time, but the world changes, and so does technology. When Matt and I started Pneuma, he agreed to continue supporting the Serotek products in maintenance mode because they are a lifeline for so many. We’re not going to leave anyone in the digital dark.
Pneuma Solutions is doing well, but we’re primarily focused on enterprise and educational customers now. That said, Serotek was one of a kind—serving blind consumers before we even thought of ourselves as “consumers.” I’m incredibly proud of the work our team did at Serotek. They were some of the most amazing people I’ve ever worked with, and many of them have gone on to do great things in our community.
I also want to recognize Richard Wells, who continues to pour so much of himself into the Sero community. It’s humbling to see that kind of dedication. While we’re not actively evolving Sero or trying to grow the community, I assure you we’re not going to leave our users behind. If it comes to it, we might consider another lifetime membership drive to raise funds down the line, but we’re not there yet. Right now, funds are fine; the real challenge is that the community isn’t growing much. Social media has taken the place of what we built with FreedomBox, SAMNet, and now Sero. But I’m glad we still have a voice and a space where we can share things that matter to us.
Regarding AppleVis, yes, they’ve had some challenges, including issues with Cloudflare and the Sero RSS collector, but those are being worked on and should be resolved soon. AppleVis has gone through a lot of changes recently, including transitioning under the stewardship of Be My Eyes, and they’ve made decisions about their content strategy that we respect.
Thanks for the history lesson and for being part of this community. We love and appreciate all our Sero members—those with us and those we’ve lost along the way.
Happy New Year to all! May 2025 exceed your expectations!
