Mike Calvo (Pneuma Solutions Staff): Message to the community

Hey everyone:

I want to take a moment to say something from the heart—not just as the founder of what used to be Serotek, but as someone who still deeply cares about this community.

I know some of you have been frustrated with System Access not starting up properly, and I’ve seen the comments saying it feels like we don’t care anymore. I get it. And I hear you.

The truth is, the Sero Software and System Access—while still chugging along—are definitely long in the tooth. We haven’t actively developed new features for them in years, and we’ve been upfront about them being in end-of-life status. That said, we haven’t gone away. And we haven’t stopped caring.

Matt Campbell and I have always poured our hearts into making technology more accessible, and even now at Pneuma Solutions, that mission hasn’t changed. We're a small team with limited resources, and today our focus is on building and maintaining newer technologies like RIM, the Scribe platform, and other software which a lot of people in the community rely on every day.

We still do our best to keep Sero and System Access compatible with modern versions of Windows and to patch reproducible bugs that are affecting multiple users. But for issues that are random or difficult to reproduce, we just don’t have the bandwidth to chase them down the way we used to—no matter how much we’d like to.

This isn’t about taking the money and running. It’s about trying to do the most good with what we have—and hoping that those of you who’ve been with us over the years understand how tough these decisions can be.

If System Access is still helping you in your day-to-day life, that honestly means everything to us. And if it’s time for something else, we support whatever path works best for you. Just please know: Matt and I are still here. We still care. And we’re still working hard to push accessibility forward, just like we always have.
We don't always have the time to personally look at the forum but our support team is tasked with reading and handling issues as best we can. Shawn Bever is our support rep and he answers all voice and emails. As most small companies everyone does several things and Shawn is here and will be on this forum from time to time.

Startup issues? Now that's a first for me. But, even still today, when I want something very simple to use, system access is always there for me.

I love System Access with Jarte, a wonderfully simple and straightforward word processor. I use System Access with Sero also, because that was all I had when I first discovered Sero. If NVDA works with it, I will use it if anything happens to System Access.

Karen S: Re: Message to the community my feelings about this system

the s e r o app is one of the favorite apps that are available on my blind shell to phone. I enjoy it very much. I love the my newspaper, they described movies, and the information sections the most. May the system be around forever exclamation And if a price increase is needed, I am willing to pay my share.

Certainly Mike, I remain trusting you and your fellows.
Even as I ask certain occurence and why it happens, the trust is always there. Sometimes I wander whether there are not so good people who are able to come into the Sero and manipulate, that is why I lost lots of my emails which are valuable to me. However, I remain trusting and that is why I am a lifetime subscriber of this wonderful program.
My trust remains.

Okay, i understand that being a small companey makes inovation hard but there has to be a balence between us paying more and getting more features in sa and sero. i beleeve in sero and what they have done in the past. and i would be willing to pay more, if it ment more devellupment. but i also understand that any companey big or small can fold these days. I am thinking about orcam spasisickly i have a orcam my eye 2 pro. and I am not proud of that. it's like one day i could talk to them and no body sed that there was any thing wrong and the next day they dissapeard. i mean no working phones no working websites no nothing. it's like they never exsisted. now i have a orcam with a bad battery and it doesn't boot up. Yah it's a 5000 doller buzzard i can hook it up to my computer and it will beep when the computer powers up. Yeppy! and i am still nmaking payments on the damn thing. I can't replace the battery because it is soddered to the cirkit board, and besides that i can't open it up after i did alot of digging i learned that orcam went away because of lack of interest. cheeper and better technoloigys have come along and made the orcam obsullette. my point is I invested alot of time money with sero and i am proadly one of it's bigger preponits I live in kalamazoo michigan and this is jaws country. but i beleeve in sa and it's past and feature potencial so much that i have premoted sa openly with bero of services for blind persons over the years. just like i did with orcam, now i feel like a fool i made a big investment in to a orcam and now i have to make payments on a device that won't even boot up. and the company isn't around to fix it. I learned about orcam from a show called dr. phill he brought a ten year old boy on stage to deminstrate it and i thought it sounded great so i got one. now i feal like such a fool my point is that there must be a balance between the money that the company takes in and the inavations they make to the product.we all know that through the years products have come along and sunndenly gong. the talking clocks from sharp and spartice were a good example. and as far as innovation I have a idea. I use docuscan pluss i bought it and i love it but i can't make it mobile. if it would be possabl to connect a dashcam that is wify compatible then i could login to sero with the dashcam and use docuscan plus on the go. . LONG LIVE SERO SA AND DOCUSCAN PLUS!
