Shawn Bever (Pneuma Solutions Staff): Issues Accessing the Taskbar in Windows 11 24H2
Some users have reported that they are having trouble accessing the Taskbar with System Access in the latest version of Windows 11. The issue with reading the Windows taskbar is related to a System Access setting that needs to be turned off. Please follow these steps to turn it off:
1. Access the System Access interface by pressing Insert + F.
2. Choose “Preferences” from the menu.
3. Choose “General Preferences” from the preferences menu.
4. Use the Tab key to navigate down to the checkbox labeled “Treat the Windows Taskbar as a web page” and clear the checkbox by pressing the spacebar.
5. Use the Tab key to navigate to the “Ok” button and press the Enter key.
6. Press the Escape key twice to close the System Access interface.
To access the System Tray directly, press Windows key + B, then use the left and right arrow keys to move through the items in the System tray. Pressing the spacebar when you hear “show hidden items” will place you into the grid of tray icons, which can be navigated with the arrow keys.
To access the Windows taskbar in general, follow these steps:
1. Press the Windows key + D to place focus on the desktop.
2. Press the Tab key to navigate through the buttons and sections of the taskbar.
3. When in the various sections of the taskbar, use the left and right arrow keys to move through items in that section.
4. To interact with an item, open the menu for the item by pressing Shift + F10, or press the enter key to open the window for the item. Please note that Some items may not have menus, so Shift + F10 will not work in such cases.
