Clarissa: change login number
I know we can change our username/email and phone number, but is there a way to change the number that was used to sign up for service? When I log in to Sero, I have to use an ancient phone number that I haven't owned for ages.

Yes, when I came back here I had the same problem. If I remember right, there's a one-time process to upgrade from the account ID and PIN to a username and password, and you can change your contact number in your account settings. This should mean that your old number is no longer on file.
Sadly, I did not receive any perk for returning after these many years! But glad to see another wanderer of these ghostly environs.

Yes, I had actually changed my phone number previously. Of course I had to change it again because I no longer use that number either. But my login is still the same phone number I had in 2009.
How do you upgrade to a username and password?

It was probably unintuitive.
You said you know about the username change option. Perhaps start by trying that again. Next, try a change of password. Between them, surely, one of them must kick off the process.
If you have a password manager, be sure to keep it on hand because you have to enter and reenter the password, and there'll be no way to automatically fill it. I distinctly remember this being painful.
Good luck!

Hi Clarissa,
Message me privately with the new phone number you want to use for your account number and I'll change it for you. There's no way to do this from My Account in Sero.

Okay, that's what I needed to know.

Interesting, maybe I misremembered, because I no longer use the number at all. Is the number actually used for anything besides logging on? Since I can always use the login it's entirely possible I also have an old number on file and just don't know what it is. That would also explain it. I tried a few of my old numbers, that I could recall, but didn't get any working with my current password.
I'll email you with the new number, Sean, if you can correct whatever the old number is. Probably, there should be a way to do that in the settings, if it's being updated.

No, I didn't think there was a way for the end user to change that particular number. And this has been confirmed. Yes, you can change your phone number in settings, but this does not change the number that is used to log on. I don't think I ever tried using my Sero username to log on though.

Yes, logging on with the username part of your email address has worked ever since I created it, even after my service was suspended. Sero has been around for quite a while, as you know, so it's not surprising to me that it's developed a few barnacles along the way. I no longer have a record of the number I used, but I sent Shawn an email to correct it if necessary. However, you always have the option of using the username, so at least you don't need to remember your old number.

Yes, username work very well. Like me, I always use my username. My full email address is law@mysero.net, but I use law to login only. So you don't have to use full email address to login. I believe you can use your phone number to login yes, but I just use the easy way only.
