Justin Coffin: Unable to configure mail settings in modern outlook
Hello,
I don't know what's going on, but I'm not able to configure mail settings in the new modern outlook Microsoft is trying to make us use. The incoming server settings are graded out, and I can't edit them at all. I can only edit the SMTP settings. Any ideas why this could be happening?
Thanks,
Justin C.

To keep this on topic, are you trying to configure Sero Mail as in Outlook third-party Email client? If so, use Thunderbird instead. Sero is already set up for it.

Yes, I'm trying to get the modern outlook to work with Sero e-mail, but no matter how I configure the e-mail server it doesn't want to work. I'm thinking it has something to do with the way the new outlook handles SMTP because I can receive messages. I just can't send them. I followed all instructions in the help file as described, and I get an undeliverable message every single time I want to send a message. I have outlook clasic installed on another computer, configured with the same setup, and I can send messages every time. It's just with this new modern version where I have the trouble. Does that make sense?

Justin: Make sure SMTP server is set to mail.sero.email and the port number is 425. It does require clear password authentication and SSL/TLS as the security setting.

Justin: I wrote 425, but it is 465 as you wrote. You do have to set clear password authentication as the same password you used in IMAP and SSL/TLS as your security setting.

Hello,
For reference, here's the error message I'm getting.
Technical details
SmtpSubmissionPermanent5XXException: Smtp submission failed. Server 'mail.mysero.net' Port '465'. --> Unexpected SMTP server response. Expected: 334, actual: 535, whole response: 535 5.7.8 Error: authentication failed: Invalid authentication mechanism
I have the server set up as mail.sero.email as described in the help file.

I am not an Outlook user, but I just had a play and it looks like the autodiscover process is correct for sero.email addresses but not mysero.net addresses.
Yes, the help has all the right details. You want PLAIN authentication over SSL/TLS, port 993 for IMAP and 465 for SMTP. Log in with your complete sero.email address, not just the username, and the dedicated email password you have set up. It looks like you're doing everything right, except for logging in correctly. But this should be working and I can't see why the modern version of Outlook should behave differently from the classic version in this regard.
