Hi Abby and wordsthatmatter. To stop it from counting down the duration while on a call with Voiceover, you can just slide away from the countdown section of the screen. You can either tap anywhere else on the screen or slide to the right so the cursor won't stay where the countdown area is. If you don't do this then it will keep counting down until you turn off speech or move away from that area.
