Earth Has No Sorrow Heaven Cannot Heal
The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.
Romans 8:16-19
Because of the effects of sin, the world is filled with sickness, evil, suffering, and death. None of this was part of God's original design. The world He created was perfect. Becoming a Christian does not exempt us from the troubles of the world. And faithfully following Jesus doesn't change that either. In fact, the more we are like Him, the more opposition we are likely to face. Jesus told His followers to expect that trouble is coming. “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33).
But though trouble is real and suffering will last as long as we are in this world, this world is not all there is. Those who have put their faith in Jesus have something far better waiting in the future. In his book Bible Facts About Heaven John Rice wrote, “When the Christian dies, he loses his sorrows. If one glistening tear can stain the pure face of a saint in Glory, then God Himself will wipe it away and comfort with His own endearments all His own who have sorrowed! Pain will be forgotten. Poverty will turn into riches. Earth has no sorrow Heaven cannot heal.”
In this world we have God's promise of comfort and grace, but in the next world we will not need them any more. Instead, we will be in a perfect place where no more tears will ever be shed.
No matter how difficult life may be, we have the promise of God's perfect Heaven for our future.
