1 Samuel 16:7 (NKJV) 7 But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
For most people, appearance says a lot. It is how they judge a person; by what they have, how they carry themselves, or how they dress.
If we could only get this understanding; it is what’s in the heart of a man or woman that makes them who they are.
We can’t see a person's heart as God does. But we can know someone's heart, or even our own heart to some degree.
How?
By listening to what is said.
Matthew 15:18 (NKJV) 18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and they defile a man.
A person's words will speak volumes. We will hear what is in their heart if we listen when they speak.
It is the same with our own heart. If we listen to ourselves and what we say, we will hear what is in our heart as well.
The things we have in there that are good, we will hear them come out. And the things that need correcting and adjusting, they will show up as well.
We must stop looking at the appearance of someone and deciding who they are or what they are about.
Listening will show us what they are all about.
Some people may look like they don't have much if we judge them by their appearance. But in their heart they may be rich in love and wisdom.
