Matthew 7:7 (LSB) 7 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.
God’s word is clear when it comes to teaching us that He wants us to go to Him and ask of Him when we are in need.
God also makes it very clear that if we ask, we will receive!
Now that we understand this Biblical truth, let’s look at it a little more closely, so we can be sure to understand it and put it into practice in the way God wants us to.
We know, based on the verse above, that God wants to give us what we ask for.
Considering that, we should carefully weigh our requests.
Why?
To be sure that we are asking in accordance with what is best for us and is aligned with His will.
You see, if we fail to carefully consider our requests, we can errantly ask for things that may hurt us or cause us distress in the future.
This may be difficult for us to foresee. But if we take certain steps, we can eliminate much of the “risk”.
Here’s what can help us.
His word says that He gives us the desires of our heart. But look at what else it says!
Psalm 37:4-5 (NKJV) 4 Delight yourself also in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart. 5 Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass.
We must delight ourselves in Him. And we must commit our way to Him.
This is critically important for us to understand.
And as we learn to delight ourselves in Him and commit our way to Him, our heart changes, as do the desires of our heart.
Then, our will becomes better aligned with His will. And this leads to our requests being less self-centered and more God-centered.
And this is a win/win since we are now no longer seeking those things that are self-serving, but those things that are God-centric and benefitting the kingdom of God.
So, let us seek what He wants in us, that what we seek in our requests will bring glory and honor to Him and His kingdom.
