Clean sheets
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. – 1 John 1:9
Every two weeks, like clockwork, I wash my sheets. Now, maybe I should do it every week, but I don’t. Still, without fail, every two weeks I strip off my still perfectly white sheets, throw them in the washer, then into the dryer, and put them right back on my bed for the next night’s sleep. To skip that step would raise eyebrows—at least with my mom!
Have you ever stopped to think about why we go through the effort of changing our sheets so often? The answer’s simple: because they get dirty.
On the night before His crucifixion, Jesus stooped low to wash the disciples’ feet. He did it because of love, but also because their feet were dirty. And he taught them an important lesson on the importance of keeping ourselves clean of sin—through repentance and confession.
Listen, I don’t need to convince you how good it feels to sleep in a freshly made bed. If you’ve ever spent time confessing your sins before God, your soul understands that feeling too!
So let me ask you: when was the last time you let God “wash your feet”?
