Waiting with Expectancy
I waited patiently and expectantly for the Lord; and He inclined to me and heard my cry.
Psalm 40:1, AMPC
David was out in the shepherds’ fields taking care of his father’s sheep. He had a big dream in his heart. He knew God had called him to do great things, but there wasn’t any sign of that happening. He was stuck with the animals. He could have been discouraged, but David understood the power of waiting with expectancy. I can imagine him writing today’s Scripture while he was out in those lonely fields. Perhaps he wrote Psalm 27: “I am confident I will see the goodness of God in the land of the living.” He was saying, “While I’m waiting, I’ll praise Him. When nothing is changing, I’ll praise Him. When I feel stuck, I’ll praise Him. When I’m overlooked and underestimated, I’ll still praise Him.” While David waited expectantly, he didn’t know that the prophet Samuel was on the way to his house to anoint him as the next king of Israel. If you feel stuck, overlooked, and the dream seems too big, you need to know that God is on the way with what you need. Listen for the knock on your door.
"In the morning, LORD, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly."
Psalm 5:3 NIV
Prayer For Today
“Father, thank You that there is a purpose for times of waiting, whether I understand it or not. Help me to be patient, to be confident, and to rest in the fact that it’s all part of Your process. I believe that I am right where You want me, and that You have every blessing already lined up for me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
