Revelation 3:19 (NKJV) 19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore be zealous and repent.
To be zealous means to be actively and passionately committed to doing what is required regarding that thing that we are zealous about.
In this scripture it is referring to being zealous about drawing near to God and repenting of worldly ways.
God loves us so much, He will chasten us, correct us, and help us to take care of that thing which will destroy us.
And that thing, my friend, is our heart.
Our hearts are deceitful, and desperately wicked, according to Jeremiah.
Jeremiah 17:9 (NKJV) 9 “The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it?
This is why we need Jesus Christ and what He did on the cross for us all.
He brings salvation to each one that repents of their sin and believes in who He says He is; the Christ, our Messiah, the Son of the living God.
He was crucified and died on the cross, and in 3 days He rose again!
He shed His blood to save us from the wickedness of our hearts; hearts that would lead us right into hell for eternity.
We may say, “well, I’m not that bad. I try to do everything right. I give to the poor, I love people, I follow the golden rules, etc."
The heart can even cause us to think we are doing alright in God’s eye; it can keep us in a state of negligence.
Why? Because of its pride painting our own beautiful picture of who we are. Our own heart can deceive us.
It will work overtime to avoid asking God for forgiveness. Our very own heart will try and talk us out of what is the best thing that could ever happen to us.
Bring that heart into check!
Wherever we are today, let us acknowledge the state of our heart, and repent, putting our faith in Christ and asking God for forgiveness.
Amen.
