Time to walk away or stay?
We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you. – 2 Chronicles 20:12
How do you know when it’s time to walk away from something?
Most of us struggle with necessary endings. Sometimes we cling too long to what God is asking us to release. Other times, we give up too quickly when He’s calling us to endure. So how can we discern when it’s time to let go or when it’s time to hold on?
Some situations are clear because God’s Word speaks directly to them. But others aren’t as straightforward. What about a dating relationship? A ministry? A job? How do you know if it’s time to end it or if God is asking you to stay put and trust Him through the hard seasons?
The answer is simpler than we often make it: ask the Lord. Bring your questions and uncertainties before Him, just as Jehoshaphat did in 2 Chronicles 20. Surrounded by enemies, unsure of what to do, he laid the situation before God and prayed, “We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on You.” And God answered with clarity and assurance.
That’s still His promise to you today. Time and again God has proven to be faithful, closing some doors and opening others, helping us figure out when it’s time to walk away and when it’s time to stay.
So if you’re facing a possible ending, don’t rush to decide on your own. Lay it before the Lord and trust Him to respond to your prayer just as He responded to Jehoshaphat’s plea.
