“To Him all the prophets witness that, through His name, whoever believes in Him will receive remission of sins.”
ACTS 10:43
PONDER THIS
The Bible is about one person. The hero of the Bible is Jesus Christ. If you read the Bible, Old Testament or New Testament, and you don’t find Jesus Christ, you have missed the message of the Bible. It is about the Lord Jesus Christ.
When we pick up the phone to talk to call our son in Madrid, we eliminate everybody who doesn’t have a phone. And then, when we dial the first digit that deals with the country, the country of Spain, we eliminate all other countries. Then, when we dial a couple more digits, we eliminate all the other cities in Spain. Then we dial a couple of more digits, and that eliminates many more people in a particular city in Spain. And then, when we dial that last digit, there’s nobody left but one. Isn’t that amazing? Five billion people on the face of the Earth, and across the ocean, you can pick up a phone and start dialing numbers and narrow the focus. That’s what the Old Testament does, with each prophecy, the odds are closed in, pointing to one person. Jesus, who was fully God and fully man, fulfilled every prophecy of the Old Testament. When we read the Bible, we are not trying to find good advice or simply a word for our day; we are reading the united account and witness of Jesus over thousands of years.
What are some Old Testament passages that point to Jesus most clearly? What have you learned about Jesus through reading the Bible?
How does seeing Jesus as the main character change how you read the Bible?
PRACTICE THIS
Talk to a pastor or friend in the faith and ask for additional insight on how the Old Testament points to Jesus.
