2 Corinthians 5:14-15 (LSB) 14 For the love of Christ controls us, having concluded this, that one died for all, therefore all died. 15 And He died for all, so that they who live would no longer live for themselves, but for Him who died and rose again on their behalf.
As we study God’s word, particularly the writings of Paul to the Corinthian Christians, it becomes abundantly clear that He wanted them to fully understand the sacrifice that Christ made for them (and us), and how that sacrifice should manifest itself in their lives.
Let’s look more closely at this.
Paul stated in verse 14 that one died for all; Christ.
Jesus died a sacrificial death on the cross for you, and for me. This was His purpose; to offer redemption to mankind through the shedding of His pure, holy blood that washes away all sin.
Therefore, since He died for all, all who are in Him (following Him by faith) also die.
What does that mean to us?
That since He died for all, we who live (in Him) should no longer live for ourselves.
We should no longer spend our lives for self, but for Him who died and rose again on our behalf.
This can be a wakeup call to many of us.
It is very easy to get caught up in our own stuff; our wants, our needs, our concerns in life.
But God has a better way; a path that teaches us to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with our God.
A way that leads to life, not death.
And a way that brings glory and honor to Him; the One who loves us so much that He gave His Son to save us from our sins.
Micah 6:8 (NKJV) 8 He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God?
