A Faith Story
And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world. Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God. And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.
1 John 4:14-16
So much of the world celebrates Christmas without understanding what it is all about. They may see mangers and shepherds, but for the most part, the Bible story becomes part of the background noise of the holiday season. For a lot of people there is no real difference between Frosty the snowman and a wiseman in meaning.
Jesus did not come into the world to provide an excuse for shopping sprees, overeating, and a few days off work. He came as the Savior, and the Bible gives testimony to His purpose, as well as giving us a reason to believe: “But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name” (John 20:31).
At its heart, Christmas is a faith story. It is not humanly possible for a virgin to bear a child. It is not humanly possible for a star to be brought and stand over a house. It is not humanly possible for God to come and take on human flesh—and yet retain His deity. Yet it all happened just as God said.
We do not have to understand how it is possible in order to believe it. We simply need to come in faith, believing the message that Jesus came to bring salvation and trusting it for ourselves. Everyone who does that becomes part of God's family, not because of any work or merit on our part, but only because of His grace. Jesus was a perfect example, a gifted teacher, a miracle worker and more, but above all else He is the Savior who died to pay for our sins and rose to give us eternal life.
With God nothing is impossible, and we must believe all that He has said.
