Matthew 23:11 (NKJV) 11 But he who is greatest among you shall be your servant,
True greatness is measured in terms of serving.
Jesus provided the highest standard of service in His death on the cross.
As we follow Christ and allow Him to change our hearts, we will find ourselves serving others more than usual.
Servanthood will become part of our very nature.
Serving others is not something to be ashamed of. It is the very thing that Jesus did for us.
When Jesus Christ, God in the flesh, came to earth, He took on the form of a bondservant.
Philippians 2:6-7 (NKJV) 6 who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, 7 but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men.
A bondservant is someone who makes a voluntary, lifelong commitment to another's will, choosing to remain with them out of love, loyalty, and devotion. Such is Christ's relationship with His Father.
The closer we get to Christ, the more we are willing to take on such a commitment. Servanthood will take over. And it will be an honor to serve God and whoever He puts in our path.
The closer we get to Christ, the more the servant's heart will grow in us.
Amen.
