God Speaks to People Like Us
When we open Scripture, we see a beautiful pattern: God delights in using ordinary people to carry out His extraordinary plans. He spoke to Noah, asking him to build an ark that would save creation. He lifted Joseph, a poor exiled teenager, to become a mighty ruler in Egypt. He called Moses, who doubted his ability to speak, to lead His people out of slavery. He chose David, a humble shepherd boy, to slay a giant and later to rule a nation. He entrusted Mary, a lowly peasant girl, with the honor of bearing His Son. And Jesus Himself grew up as a carpenter, without worldly education, yet became the Savior of the world.
These stories remind us that God does not measure worth by status, wealth, or eloquence. He looks at the heart. He delights in showing His strength through our weakness, His wisdom through our simplicity, and His glory through our humility. If He could use Noah, Joseph, Moses, David, Mary, and Jesus to change the course of history, how much more can He use us today?
So let us listen for His voice. Let us trust His calling, even when we feel small or unworthy. For in God’s hands, ordinary lives become vessels of extraordinary grace. And through us, His work continues in the world.
Let's pray:
Lord, we thank You for reminding us that You delight in using ordinary people for Your extraordinary purposes. Just as You spoke to Noah, Joseph, Moses, David, Mary, and through Jesus, speak to us today. Give us ears to hear Your voice, hearts willing to obey, and courage to trust that Your strength is made perfect in our weakness. May our lives bring glory to You as we walk in faith. In Your precious and Holy Name, Amen.
