Proverbs 22:6 (NKJV) 6 Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it.
It's important for us to understand that this verse does not mean that we are going to be perfect in training up our children.
But we must try and be the best example we can be, and even more with God’s help!
We are all growing in Christ, so training up our children is just as much a learning curve for us as it is for them. And yes, we will mess up at times even as adults trying to do the right things.
Paul says it best; the thing he wants to do, he doesn't and the thing he does not want to do, he does. That is raw right there. How true for each and every one of us.
Romans 7:15 (NKJV) 15 For what I am doing, I do not understand. For what I will to do, that I do not practice; but what I hate, that I do.
It’s normal to make mistakes here and there. And our children and others around us will see these mistakes we make as well.
We may teach one thing and do the opposite at times. As you know, when that happens it stands out more than the things we work on so hard to do right.
What’s important is that when we make mistakes, even as leaders or parents, we take the right steps to fix it.
Let the children see us run to the altar. Let them see us seek God's help in prayer.
As we repent for our errors, and they see us get His victory over our weaknesses, challenges, or struggles, they will learn very fast where they too can get answers.
Teach them that there is redemption in Christ for our poor choices through His grace. Oh Praise the Lord today!
Ephesians 1:7 (NKJV) 7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace
Amen.
