Five words you need today
But He gives more grace. Therefore it says, ‘God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.’ – James 4:6
I was teaching through the book of James recently when five familiar words stopped me in my tracks.
I had read them many times before, but this time they seemed to wash over me like never before: “But He gives more grace.”
Maybe those are the five words you need to hold on to today.
When you feel overwhelmed by your weakness, He gives more grace.
When you're carrying the weight of failure, He gives more grace.
When you're exhausted from trying to get everything right, He gives more grace.
When you're facing something you don't have the strength to handle, He gives more grace.
God doesn't simply give grace once and expect you to make it the rest of the way on your own. He continually supplies the grace you need.
But James also reminds us how we receive it: “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”
Grace comes to the person willing to admit, “God, I can't do this without You.” It is received by those who honestly come before God, confess their need, and trust His mercy.
No matter what you're facing today, you will never come to the end of God's grace.
Your need may be great. But His grace is always greater.
Prayer: Father, thank you that your grace never runs out. Help me come to you humbly, admitting my need and receiving the grace you so generously give. Amen.
Reflect: Where do you most need God's grace today? Think about the worst failure in your life; then grab on to more of God’s grace to help you live like an overcomer there!
